Good Friday will be a day off? There is a government position

For years in Poland there has been a discussion in Poland whether Christmas Eve and Good Friday should be days off. The issue on December 24 was decided at the end of last year, when the parliament decided that from 2025 Christmas Eve would be a day off. What about Big Friday? This year, this day falls on April 18. For many Poles, this is a special day, which is a time of spiritual preparation for Easter. Every year, many offices change working hours on this day. However, decisions in this matter depend on the internal findings of individual institutions.

Good Friday like Christmas Eve?

As Radio ZET reminds, at the end of last year a petition came to the Senate regarding the establishment of Holy Friday a day off from work. The author of the petition, who kept anonymity, points out that Good Friday is celebrated by all the main Christian denominations. He also points out that on this day students have free, which creates difficulties for parents who must provide childcare. Lack of free adults generates professional conflicts, because many people want to take a vacation the same day.

The petition suggested in exchange for a day off on Good Friday, to give up on May 3, which is now a day off, despite the fact that the Constitution of May 3 is no longer valid. The author of the petition believes that since we do not celebrate the day of adopting the current constitution, May 3 should be an ordinary working day.

However, the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy does not provide for changes in the calendar public holidays this year, which means that this year Good Friday will be a normal day of work.

From the SW Research survey conducted a year ago for “Wprost” shows that as much as 71.2 percent. Poles support the idea of ​​establishing Holy Friday with a day off. Only 16.4 percent respondents had a different opinion, and 12.4 percent gave the answer “I don’t know”.
