Global success of Polish BLIK! Millions of new customers will benefit from the service
Revolut and BLIK are joining forces to offer a new feature that could change the way millions of customers around the world make mobile payments.
International financial giant Revolut, known for its wide range of debit cards, currency accounts and cryptocurrency investment options, plans to expand its offering with the Polish mobile payment system BLIK. As Rzeczpospolita has established, this partnership is an important step in BLIK’s international expansion strategy.
BLIK in Revolut
A significant event is coming to the Polish cashless payments market. The Polish Payment Standard (PSP), responsible for the BLIK system, intends to start cooperation with Revolut. Although both companies have not officially confirmed this yet, according to sources close to the matter, BLIK is to be integrated with the international payment platform Revolut by the end of the year.
The cooperation between PSP and Revolut has been going on for several years, but has only recently gained momentum. Currently, both systems are being integrated, and access to BLIK on the Revolut platform may be available to customers before the end of this year. The process of implementing a new functionality usually begins with internal tests, which include employees, and then extends to a circle of friends and family. The next stages are so-called beta tests, in which selected customers participate, and only at the end is the system made available to the general public.
How will this work?
Once the integration is complete, Revolut users will be able to use six-digit BLIK codes to make payments. This means that mobile transfers and other transactions using BLIK will be possible via the Revolut app, which already offers a variety of financial services such as debit cards, currency accounts and cryptocurrency investments.
BLIK, one of the most popular mobile payment systems in Poland, allows you to make online purchases, withdraw cash from ATMs without using a card and send money to a phone number.
The partnership with BLIK brings benefits to both Revolut and PSP. For Revolut, this means expanding the offer with a functionality that is already used by over 16 million Poles. The largest number of BLIK users are in banks such as PKO BP, mBank, ING, Pekao, Santander and Millennium. In the last year alone, the number of BLIK users has increased by one fifth, which shows its growing popularity.
For BLIK, cooperation with Revolut opens the door to international expansion. Revolut is one of the largest fintechs in the world, and Poland is the third most important market for the company, right after Great Britain and Romania. Although initially BLIK integration will be available only to Polish users, there is a big chance that it will be expanded to other countries in the future.
Currently, BLIK is developing on the Romanian and Slovak markets, and its ambitious plans include expansion to Italy, Spain, France and Germany. PSP sees great potential in the development of BLIK, especially in the area of e-commerce on these markets.
