Germans want to surprise the world. The Vision ship is supposed to be a real revolution

Projekt statku wycieczkowego Vision

The German company Meyer Werft presented a cruise ship powered entirely by electricity. The Vision project is expected to take over 1.8 thousand people on board. passengers.

Germany wants to use green energy also at sea. During the Seatrade Cruise Global conference in Miami, they presented the design of a new cruise ship, which they called “Vision”. As they emphasized, this is to be the first machine of this type to be 100 percent powered by an electric and battery system.

Vision by Meyer Werft. The first such cruise ship

Meyer Werft developed its breakthrough idea together with the Norwegians from Corvus Energy. They are the ones who will provide the power system. The Norwegian company specializes in batteries, and with Vision it wants to use technology that already exists and is widely used. According to their estimates, this will reduce exhaust emissions by up to 95%.

In addition to the unusual drive, Vision is also distinguished by its size. The ship will be 275 meters long, will accommodate 1,856 passengers, and its gross tonnage is estimated at over 80,000. tone. There will be a swimming pool on the upper deck, and the entire facility will meet the most modern standards. The first copy would be launched in 2031.

Not only Vision. A Norwegian company is preparing a similar, smaller project

The Interia portal drew attention to other cruise ships with zero-emission propulsion. He mentioned the Norwegian project by Hurtigruten Sea Zero. However, that ship would accommodate much fewer people on board. It is estimated that it would be about 500 passengers. In the case of this project, rotor sails and solar panels could be an additional power system. We can expect the first model in 2030.

The idea of creating eco-friendly cruise ships returns every few years. At the end of 2017, a lot was written about the “Ecoship” project. – “Ecoship” was my dream – said the founder of Peace Boat, Yoshioka Tatuya.

– Using conventional ships was extremely frustrating for us, even though we tried to reduce pollution levels as much as possible, he emphasized. A typical cruise ship can burn hundreds of tons of heavy fuel oil a day and emits as much particulate matter as a million cars.
