German trade union Verdi has called on airport workers for a day-long warning strike as part of ongoing collective bargaining. According to the announcement, the protest will be attended primarily by employees of technical services, administration and the airport fire brigade, while the airport’s operational staff will operate normally.

As we read in “Der Spiegel”, the negotiations conducted by trade unionists concern pay raises for approximately 2,000 people. employees. Verdi members demand a 6 percent salary increase (i.e. at least EUR 250 per month for each professional group), as well as an additional day off for union members.

The strike is a reaction to the proposal of employers, who in the last round proposed wage increases of approximately 1 percent annually, valid until the end of 2028, which, according to trade unionists, is a provocation. The next round of talks is scheduled for March 25.

Protests in Germany. Inconvenience to passengers

To increase the pressure, Verdi appealed to public transport workers to organize a warning protest on Thursday, March 19. Passengers must expect huge difficulties on this day because, among others, There will be no buses, metro or trams in Hamburg, Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia.

At the same time, organization Eurowings employees do not rule out industrial action – when voting, as many as 94 percent supported this idea. The specific date of the strike has not been set yet. The main cause of disputes are issues related to employee pension contributions and insurance conditions, as in the case of the parent airline Lufthansa.

Last week Lufthansa pilots have already gone on strike twiceresulting in the cancellation of hundreds of flights from major hubs in Germany, including Frankfurt and Munich, which caused enormous difficulties for travelers.
