German media critically about Trump’s customs. “Leads the world straight to the disaster”

Disaster or chance? German media comment on Trump’s customs and warn against the effects of the global trade war.
German media does not save President Donald Trump. In yesterday’s comments, the criticism of the new American customs policy was accompanied by black scenarios for the disaster of the German economy. Today, German media write that “fratricidal fight” can also be an opportunity for the EU.
German media about Trump duties
“It can lead the world straight to the disaster”, “the global effects will be fatal” and “the leading power of the Western world has become a risk for the global economy” – these are just some of the statements appearing in the German media.
The economic daily “Handelsblatt” writes that Trump justifies his duties absolutely “abstract calculation”, which “short -term damage is huge and long -term – immeasurable.”
In turn, the “Sueddeutsche Zeitung” daily reminds that Trump, praised by Trump from the 1930s, contrary to what the US President claims, only deepened the recession of this country, choked international trade and contributed to the global economic crisis. Then World War II broke out. “On Wednesday, Donald Trump began an experiment on a scale that is difficult to overestimate. If it fails, it can lead the world straight to the disaster,” writes the newspaper.
The RND editorial network, to which many regional and local dailies in Germany belong, writes that Trump continues his obsession with customs. “The president’s goals are contradictory, doubtful calculations, and the global effects are terrible. Europe must counteract with the help of painful retaliation,” says the author of the commentary, Karl Doemens, quoted by “Deutsche Welle”.
Trump’s duties: “This is a chance to get more independence from America”
As “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” notes, “rarely the commercial policy and security of global power was such a great contradiction. This is particularly visible in the duties, which Trump imposed on the EU, Japan and South Korea. They belong to the closest US allies and previously they were a foothold of American power against Russia and China.”
According to the newspaper, the EU in economic terms plays in a different league than in military terms.
“If Trump imposes on European trade policy of fratricidal war, they will also have pressure. There is even a chance here: obtaining greater independence from America not only in the sphere of arms, but also economically and technologically, as well as expanding their own (commercial) alliances in the world” – writes the daily and notes that the US statements regarding customs tariffs are already affected by: the prices of action are falling: The dollar also loses its value. “Economists are afraid that the country may fall into a recession. US President Donald Trump sees no reason to worry,” writes the newspaper today.
