Gas heating for liquidation. We know the schedule

The European Union gradually limits the use of gas as a source of heating. The amendment to the building directive assumes that from 2025, Member States will not be able to publicly support the installation of gas boilers. The exception will be hybrid systems in which gas cooperates with renewable energy sources, e.g. heat pumps or solar panels.

No assembly

From 2030, the installation of new gas boilers in newly emerging buildings will be banned. By 2040, gas stoves are to be completely withdrawn from existing facilities. These regulations are part of the Fit for 55 package, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 55 percent. until 2030 and the achievement of climate neutrality in 2050.

In Poland, gas heating uses about 2 million households. Over 230,000 of them used the “Clean Air” program, under which gas boilers were purchased. From 2025, this program no longer provides for subsidies for this type of device.

However, the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management announces a new component for people who in 2024 managed to exchange the old gas furnace, but due to the suspension of recruitment, they did not obtain funding. The new recruitment is to be launched, although we will know the details only after the work is completed.

Subsidies for gas boilers

Subsidies can still be paid in 2025 from the Cohesion Fund, ERDR or RRF – as long as the contracts were signed until the end of 2024.

Experts forecast that gas heating will stop paying, both by regulatory changes and rising prices. Since July 2024, gas prices increased by 17 %, and from January 2025 PGNiG distribution tariffs by an average of 24.7 percent, which translates into an additional PLN 30 per month.

From 2027, buildings will cover the ETS2 system, which will add CO2 emissions – up to PLN 1,200 per year. Poland and other countries call for changes in the system, and the government postulates the complete disabled of ETS2 or shift its start to 2030.
