Garbage bin inspections are being prepared. Officials will check how we segregate waste
Even though waste segregation has been mandatory for five years, many people ignore the regulations. This is proven by the inspections carried out so far. More are planned in the near future.
Waste segregation has been mandatory for five years. The changes entered into force at the beginning of 2020 thanks to the Act on Maintaining Cleanliness and Order in Municipalities.
However, not everyone segregates waste correctly. This is proven by inspections carried out by municipalities from time to time. The commune of Czerniejowo (Greater Poland Voivodeship) recently decided to take such a step. Radio Zet reports on the effects of the inspection. It turns out that it showed that 80 percent out of 150 residents make significant errors during segregation.
Garbage bin inspections in Mazovia
Inspections will soon also start in the Glinojeck commune (Masovian Voivodeship). Mayor Łukasz Kapczyński, remembering previous actions of this type, does not hide the fact that there may be a lot of irregularities this time. In his opinion, they do not result from ignorance or lack of awareness of residents, but from downplaying the obligation to segregate. Evidence of this may include, for example, throwing glass or plastic bottles into mixed waste containers.
– It’s not a matter of education. I understand that some people do not know where to throw a specific product, but if someone throws glass and plastic bottles into the mixed waste container, it means that they clearly do not segregate them. – says a local government official in an interview with ciechanowinaczej.pl.
Kapczyński points out that people who do not segregate waste make waste disposal more expensive. Therefore, those who segregate correctly also bear the consequences.
Inspections are also planned in Sokołów Podlaski. Employees of the waste collection company and the City Hall will check whether the mixed waste containers contain any glass, plastic, paper or biodegradable waste, i.e. waste that should be segregated in appropriate bags in accordance with the segregation obligation.
