French attack Lewandowski. "The defeat is his fault"

Robert Lewandowski returned to action against the Austrians, having missed the first match due to injury. However, the captain did not help the national team, and the French media criticized him harshly.

In the second group match of the ongoing Euro 2024, the Polish national team faced the Austrians in Berlin. Although the White and Reds entered Friday’s clash after a defeat to the Netherlands, fans could hope for a favorable result. An additional advantage of the team led by Michał Probierz was supposed to be the return of Robert Lewandowski, but the Barcelona striker ultimately failed. His performance was strongly criticized by the French portal Sofoot.com, which blamed the team captain for the painful defeat.

French media: “Lewandowski was lost and helpless”

Before the players took to the pitch at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin on Friday, the main topic discussed in the media was the health situation of Robert Lewandowski. The captain of the team, who did not play a single minute against the Netherlands, was supposed to be at the coach’s disposal for the match with the team led by Ralf Rangnick. As it turned out, Michał Probierz decided to spare the 35-year-old, which is why the attack line was created by Krzysztof Piątek and Adam Buksa.

Lewandowski finally came on in the second half, when the scoreboard was still level. Just four minutes after coming on, he was shown a yellow card, and a moment later, the Poles conceded a second goal. The poor form of the team captain was pointed out by journalists from Sofoot.com, who devoted a separate article to the player.

Poland fell through Robert’s fault (…) Despite his injury, Robert Lewandowski insisted on playing against Austria, contributing nothing to his team (…) Absent from the match against Holland, he ran around lost for the half hour he spent on the pitch. Worse: sent on when the score was still 1-1, he watched helplessly as his team was eliminated, while receiving a yellow card.

Euro 2024: A chance to preserve honor

According to media reports, the best scorer of the Polish national team will get a chance to rehabilitate himself after a poor performance. Although the White and Reds have already been eliminated from the tournament competition due to two defeats, and the upcoming match will end their participation in the ongoing championship, Michał Probierz announced that the strongest line-up will appear on the pitch. The only absentee will be Wojciech Szczęsny, who will most likely end his national team career in the near future.

Let us recall that the Poland-France match will take place on Tuesday in Dortmund, and is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. At the same time, the Netherlands will face Austria in Berlin.
