Former Sports Minister Faces Excuse. Dismissed Immediately After Controversy
According to media reports, former Minister of Sport Danuta Dmowska-Andrzejuk was fictitiously employed at Totalizator Sportowy. What’s more, at the same time she was the president of SuperLiga SA. Now, in a statement by president Patryk Gajda, we can read about the woman’s immediate dismissal.
Danuta Dmowska-Andrzejuk, a former fencer with many successes, served twice as Minister of Sport under the Law and Justice government. With the change of government, she also lost her position. Last week, Wirtualna Polska reported that Totalizator Sportowy had notified the prosecutor’s office about the possibility of a crime being committed by former president Olgierd Cieślik, who allegedly fictitiously employed the former athlete as an advisor to the board. TS added that the woman was supposed to have been absent from work for 483 days.
Former Sports Minister Dismissed with Immediate Effect
What’s more, Dmowska-Andrzejuk may have caused a conflict of interest, as she combined the aforementioned position with her work as the president of the board of SuperLiga SA (tennis competitions). It should be added that the competitions were (and are to this day) sponsored by Lotto. In a statement released to the media, the current president of SuperLiga SA Patryk Gajda stated that the woman had no right to combine both positions, and the results of the audit conducted revealed numerous irregularities.
“Ms. Danuta Dmowska-Andrzejuk was required by law to refrain from competitive activities or activities that were contrary to the interests of the Company from the moment she took over as the president of the management board of SuperLiga SA. In the event of such a situation, the then president of the management board was required not only to disclose the conflict of interests, but also to immediately refrain from participating in resolving such matters. According to the information I have, the then employees and associates of SuperLiga SA were not informed of such circumstances, and Danuta Dmowska-Andrzejuk never submitted a statement to the Company that, in addition to serving on the management board of SuperLiga SA, she was also ‘fictitiously’ employed as an advisor to the management board of Totalizator Sportowy,” it can be read.
“The audit revealed numerous irregularities in the functioning of the organization under the management of Ms. Danuta Dmowska-Andrzejuk. As a result, pursuant to the resolution of the Supervisory Board of September 1, 2023, she was unanimously dismissed from her position with immediate effect,” it added.
Danuta Dmowska-Andrzejuk defends herself against allegations
At the end of August, Danuta Dmowska-Andrzejuk responded to allegations concerning her work at Totalizator Sportowy.
“I declare that my employment with Totalizator Sportowy was real, not fictitious. In the agreement, the parties clearly specified that I would perform my duties as an advisor to the president of the management board within the framework of the “task-based working time system”. This is important from the point of view of providing work and the legal assessment of the situation. The media did not report that I gave birth to a child and was on maternity leave during the term of the employment contract. I confirm that I did not “show up for work” during labor, after labor and during maternity leave, like many women in Poland,” wrote the world and European fencing champion, adding that she is ready to defend her innocence in court.
