France loses its crown. Spain is the new king of tourism

As it turns out, however, French domination may not last long. According to the NextGen Travelers and Destinations report prepared jointly by Google and Deloitte, the title of the most visited country in the world will soon go to Spain. By 2040, up to 110 million travelers may reach the Iberian Peninsula, overtaking not only France but also the United States.

Spain has already broken tourist records this year, attracting as many as 55.5 million people in the first half of 2025. Compared to the same period last year, this is an increase of over 4%.

Most travelers came from Great Britain, Germany and France. The most frequently visited regions are Andalusia, Catalonia and the Canary Islands.

Spain attracts tourists from all over the world

The increased interest in Spain should not be a surprise to anyone. This country located on the Iberian Peninsula is the essence of the southern lifestyle – full of sun, aromatic tapas, and flamenco music.

From the bustling city of Barcelona through the picturesque towns of Andalusia to the rugged beauty of the Pyrenees peaks to the history-filled corners of the Basque Country – each region tells a different but equally stunning story.

It is this diversity that makes Spain attract like a magnet. Culture lovers can admire Gaudi’s works and walk in the footsteps of Don Quixote, those looking for culinary experiences can try tapas in tiny bars and discover the wines of La Rioja, and those craving nature can go hiking in green Galicia or surf on the Atlantic waves.
