Foreign eggs on the shelves, and Polish can fly overseas. Commercial networks are guilty

“Commercial networks that declared the withdrawal from the sale of such eggs bring them from abroad without informing consumers about the country of origin,” informs the website “DaHandlu.pl”, quoting the position of the National Chamber of Poultry and Feed Producers (Kipdip).

KIPDiP has been informing about the problem of availability of native egg eggs for a long time. As explained in the weekly weekly guide (“TPR”) Katarzyna Gawrońska, director of Kipdip, Polish producers, but the commercial policy of specific commercial networks, is not guilty of the lack of domestic eggs in some stores.

Retail chains do not want cage eggs

– Despite the influenza of birds in Poland, the internal production of eggs is sufficient to meet domestic needs. Unfortunately, some retailers have made risky decisions to give up the sale of cage eggs, which currently leads to a situation in which Polish packages of eggs must import litter eggs from outside Poland – explains Katarzyna Gawrońska.

Adding that although the tendency to give up the production of cage eggs in Europe is quite strong and the European Commission announces in the future the prohibition of cage farming of laying hens.

Trade chains bring eggs from abroad

Trade chains that declared the withdrawal from the sale of litter eggs bring them from abroad – most often from the Netherlands or Romania. Customers, however, are not informed about this fact.

“Retail trade, except for the duties of labeling goods, does not inform consumers about the fact that they buy eggs that came from abroad, which means that some buyers feel misled,” writes “TPR”.

Polish eggs will go to the USA?

Meanwhile, Polish eggs have a chance to export overseas. The United States has long been struggling with a serious egg deficit on their market. The case is only serious that the US is considering the introduction of provisions at the federal level that will block the bans on the sale of eggs from cage farming in force in some states. Americans are also looking for egg suppliers, also in Europe.

– The American side is currently probing the possibilities of sending Polish eggs to the USA in Kipdip. Polish manufacturers declare the possibility of selling a large amount of egg processing products, but the possibilities of exporting eggs in shells are limited – said Gawrońska.
