Football legend ends career. Euro 2024 match decides

Germany bid farewell to Euro 2024. They lost to Spain in extra time at home. The clash in Stuttgart was also the last match in Toni Kroos’ career.

The Spain-Germany match was a hit in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024. Both teams were tipped to win the competition, but only one could advance to the semi-finals. After 120 minutes of play, Luis de la Fuente’s players were in better spirits, winning 2:1. The Poles’ western neighbors had two reasons to be sad. First, they were eliminated from the championship. Second, it was the last match of their great legend.

Football legend ends career at Euro 2024

Toni Kroos announced his retirement after the European Championship a few months ago. The footballer said goodbye to club football in the best possible way. With Real Madrid, he won the Champions League and the Spanish championship. For the German, it was his sixth triumph in the best European cup.

Born in Greifswald (still in the GDR era), the midfielder wanted to say goodbye to football on his own terms when he was at the highest level. The cherry on the cake was supposed to be Euro 2024 in front of his home crowd. The Germans did well and no one was surprised that they reached the quarter-finals. However, there came a defeat to Spain, which closed the door on them. Kroos announced that Euro 2024 would be his last matches in his career, so the final ended with a 1:2 defeat.

Toni Kroos’ Achievements

The former Real Madrid midfielder ended his career not only as a six-time Champions League winner, but also as a five-time European Super Cup winner, four-time Spanish champion, three-time German champion and, above all, world champion with Joachim Löw’s team. He ranks seventh in the all-time German football appearances ranking (114). In his senior career, he represented only three clubs – Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen (loaned in 2009) and Real Madrid.
