Okay. 10:00 the weather situation stabilized. Weather conditions improved and flight operations resumed. The airport asked people to check the status of their flight on an ongoing basis.
“The decision to redirect or cancel flights rests with the airline, which provides information to passengers on an ongoing basis; Kraków Airport, based on information from carriers/handling companies, updates the information on the visual information boards departures/arrivals in the terminal, on the website and in the application,” it said in the release.
Permanent problem of the airport in Balice
It will be years before the Małopolska airport says goodbye to the fog problem. Radio Kraków reported that the Air Force Institute of Technology issued a negative recommendation regarding the installation of a new category system, ILS III, on the current runway. The new road is to be built by 2031 – in three stages. The first one (1,800 m) is to be ready in autumn 2029. ILS is a radio landing support system in limited visibility.
The president of Kraków Airport, Łukasz Strutyński, said that “in the long term, only for about 2% of the airport’s operating hours, the visibility on the runway drops below 550 m, which makes landing impossible,” but considering the rapid development of this airport, this is a problem.
