How quickly do mushrooms appear after the rain? The answer is complex
– It depends on the season – said Eugeniusz Liana, one of the most famous mushroom pickers in Poland in an interview with “Fakt”. In the summer, this process takes place much shorter, and new specimens may appear within a few days. In autumn you can not count on such a quick turn of matters. The process of mushrooms can be dragged on two to three weeks.
Air temperature and humidity are also extremely important parameters in this context. As Eugeniusz Liana emphasizes, a specific species of fungus is also important. In September, in Polish forests, you can most often come across chanterelles, Riga or boletus, and the number of buttermilk and mushrooms increases.
Ten rules for mushroom pickers. You must know them before you go to the forest
On the government, as an element of ecological education, a set of principles of conscious mushroom collecting appeared.
-
Collect only the mushrooms that you can completely be sure that they are edible.
-
Collect only fully ripe/educated mushrooms, which are easily identified – young fruiting bodies without clear species features are a common cause of mistake.
-
Do not collect or destroy the fungi that are legally protected.
-
Mushrooms are best cut with a sharp knife right next to the ground, and then cover with litter – in this way you will allow you to grow more mushrooms in this place.
-
Never destroy mushrooms that you don’t collect – they can be a valuable food for many animal species.
-
Collect mushrooms for wicker baskets or air -permeable containers – plastic bags cause mushrooms and accelerate their spoilage.
-
Do not collect mushrooms in prohibited places, such as national reserves and parks, forest crops up to 4 meters high or areas belonging to the army.
-
Do not collect mushrooms that grow in ditches, on the edge of the forest and in other places that can be a cluster of waste and pollution.
-
In the forest, always keep silent and peace – this is the house of many animals, in the woods you are a guest.
-
If you see garbage in the forest – take it with you.
