Fines 2025. Traffic offenses will cost dearly
From January 1, 2025, significant changes to road traffic regulations come into force in Poland, which significantly affect the amount of fines for offenses.
The new regulations aim to improve road safety and increase discipline among drivers.
Larger fines for speeding
The most noticeable change is the increase in penalties for speeding:
-
Exceeding by 11–30 km/h: Fine up to PLN 1,500.
-
Exceeding by more than 30 km/h: Fine up to PLN 5,000, which is twice the current maximum fine
Loss of driving license for speeding outside built-up areas
So far, driving license may be suspended for three months for exceeding the speed limit by 50 km/h in a built-up area. From 2025, the sanction will also apply to single-lane, two-way roads outside built-up areas.
Tougher penalties for driving under the influence of alcohol
Drivers driving under the influence of alcohol must take into account the following consequences:
-
Alcohol concentration 0.5–1.5 per mille: Fine up to PLN 3,000 and temporary withdrawal of your driving license.
-
Concentration above 1.5 per mille: Vehicle confiscation and financial penalty from PLN 5,000 and up
Changes to the penalty points system
The new regulations introduce restrictions on the possibility of reducing penalty points:
-
Re-education courses: From 2025, drivers will be able to participate in penalty point reduction courses only once a year, instead of the current two times
-
Most serious offenses: Penalty points for the most serious infringements, such as excessive speeding or overtaking on a double solid line, will not be able to be removed.
New obligations for drivers towards pedestrians
From January 2025, drivers will be obliged to stop when a pedestrian approaches a crossing. Failure to give way will be severely punished
Tightened rules on illegal racing
Participants in illegal races must take into account:
-
Fine: At least PLN 1,000.
-
Loss of driving license: For a period of three months.
-
Entry in the driver register: Information about the violation will be recorded in the central driver register
New technologies in regulatory enforcement
The police will be equipped with automatic identification systems for vehicles belonging to people with a revoked or suspended driving license, which will enable more effective enforcement of regulations.
