Fifth gold medal for Poland at the Paris Olympics! A great match by our representative
Rafał Czuper became the Paralympic champion in table tennis. In the final of the MS2 category tournament he defeated Jiri Suchanka.
Rafał Czuper won the third Paralympic medal in his career, but the first gold. In the grand finale, he played a great match. His opponent was the Czech Jiri Suchanek. The Pole won after a four-set battle – 11:6, 8:11, 11:8, 11:6. This is a great thing for para-table tennis in our country and at the same time another medal in this sport during the event in Paris. Suffice it to say that out of five gold medals, three appeared on our account in para-table tennis.
Czuper got his gold
We mentioned Czuper’s Paralympic achievements above. He has won silver twice so far. It happened in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo. We were eagerly awaiting the duel with Suchanek in the title clash in Paris.
Sensationally, Fabien Lamirault, the hosts’ representative, who had been the bane of the Polish athlete’s entire career and won the last two Olympic finals with him, did not reach the final. In the case of this athlete, we remember primarily the competition in Tokyo, where Czuper lost to him 2:3 (6:11, 14:12, 5:11, 11:7, 9:11).
Rich achievements at the Olympic Games
After Wednesday’s competition, the Polish national team had fourteen medals at the Paralympic Games. On Thursday, in addition to Czuper, Dorota Bucław also won the medal. In the WS1-2 class, she lost 2:3 in the semi-final to the Italian Giada Rossi. The Pole was losing 0:2, but equalized. The decisive set was won by her rival, who won it 11:6. This does not change the fact that bronze is also a great success. Currently, the Polish national team has 16 medals at the Paralympic Games – 5 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze.
The competition of athletes with disabilities at the Paris Olympics will last until Sunday, September 8. The Polish team still has a few serious chances to get on the podium.
