FC Barcelona says goodbye to Robert Lewandowski! One detail was enough
The saga surrounding Robert Lewandowski’s future continues. It looks like this weekend’s match against Real Betis will be the Pole’s farewell to FC Barcelona.
Robert Lewandowski has been playing for Barca since the summer of 2022. The Polish striker arrived in the capital of Catalonia as a recognized brand. One of the best, if not the best striker in the world, who at that time in the colors of Bayern Munich, won everything there was to win. Barca was supposed to be a new direction, primarily for the player, but also for the club itself. And in fact, in both cases – these scenarios worked.
The end of Robert Lewandowski in Barcelona. Is this a farewell match?
Three championship titles in Spain in four seasons is a very good result for Lewandowski. What’s more, the Pole was still at the top of the club’s scorer’s classification, also winning individual awards – including: the crown of the sniper king in LaLiga.
However, “Lewy” will turn 38 in August 2026. The Pole lost some time due to injuries at the end of the 2024/25 campaign and at the beginning of 2025/26. Additionally, Barca began to look towards rejuvenating the number nine in the team. All this meant that the negotiations regarding the future of RL9 in Barcelona practically came to a standstill. Moreover, it happened a few weeks before the official end of the contract between Lewandowski and Barca.
So what now? It seems that the Pole will actually cease to be a Barcelona player. The fans point out that the club itself gives informal signals; on the one hand, they want to say goodbye to the Pole, and on the other hand, honor his participation in the successes of recent years.
The official website of the club from the capital of Catalonia published, among others: an eloquent invitation to the last home league match, in which Barcelona will play against Real Betis. The photo shows Lewandowski, happy about winning the national championship, proudly lifting the valuable trophy over his head.
Is this a coincidence? It’s hard to say for sure. However, Catalan and Spanish journalists report that the failure of negotiations between “Lewy” and Barcelona means that Sunday’s match may actually be the Pole’s farewell to Barca fans at Spotify Camp Nou. In the last round (i.e. May 23), the Spanish champions will go away to compete with Valencia.
FC Barcelona – Real Betis match from 9:15 p.m. on May 17. The match will be broadcast on Eleven Sports 1.
