Fatal accident in the Tatra Mountains. The Pole fell 200 meters down

On Monday, July 13, a fatal accident involving a Pole occurred in the Slovak High Tatras. The 40-year-old man most likely slipped and then fell about 200 meters down from the Czarny Szczyt area into the Dzika Valley. The victim was accompanied by his partner, who immediately called for help after the incident. “Preliminary information provided by the Horska Zachranna Service shows that the tourists moved there without any protection. They did not have the required safety equipment or specialized equipment,” reports Gazeta Krakowska.

Accident in the Tatra Mountains on difficult terrain

Climbing in the Black Peak area ended in a fatal accident. Slovak rescuers from Horska Záchranna Služba received information about a Pole who fell into the abyss on July 13 in the morning. The call was made by the man’s partner, who witnessed the incident. According to the woman’s testimony, the 40-year-old lost his balance and then fell into the abyss. The situation took place in a steep and rocky high-mountain area where traditional hiking trails are not marked.

The woman was evacuated, the man died on the spot

Due to the specific nature of the terrain, a helicopter from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Slovak Republic had to be involved in the operation. He took the rescuers who landed in Starý Smokovec. “After reaching the accident site, it turned out that the Pole had fallen from a height of about 200 meters. He died on the spot,” writes Gazeta Krakowska.

The man’s partner needed help first, as she was still in a dangerous place. The woman managed to evacuate. The victim’s body was transported by helicopter to Starý Smokovec.

Unfortunately, this is not the first fatal accident of a Polish tourist in Slovakia this year. At the end of April, a similar incident occurred during a hike to Świnica. The man then slipped at the top and then fell onto the Slovak side.
