Fatal accident in the Nysa Rally. A famous Polish driver died

Yesterday we informed about the accident that took place during the Nysa Rally. One of the drivers went off the route near the town of Maciejowice, and the car eventually hit people standing next to the designated competition section. Ultimately, two people were transported to hospital.

Unfortunately, this was not the end of the bad news coming from the competition for the Polish Rally Championship. On Sunday, tragic news about a fatal accident arrived. Artur Sękowski died. An experienced, well-known driver, very popular in the Polish motorsport community.

The Nysa Rally ended after a fatal accident on the sixth special stage

On October 12, around 11:30 on the Stary Las special stage (Nyska poviat, Głuchołazy commune), there was an accident of crew number 112, participating in the round of the historical championship. Despite immediate help, the 40-year-old driver died on the spot. The pilot was taken to hospital. Out of respect for the injured, their relatives and the entire rally community, the organizers decided to end the competition. The competition will not continue.

The services securing the section immediately arrived at the scene of the incident. Unfortunately, the driver could not be saved. The burned pilot was freed from the car and transported to hospital.

The competition organizers express their sincere condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased driver and wish the pilot a speedy recovery. At the same time, they ask you to respect the privacy of the victims and refrain from speculation. The organizers will not provide any further comments at this stage. Further information will be provided as soon as possible in cooperation with the relevant services.

There are a lot of comments on social media from people who are shocked by what happened during the Nysa Rally. For years, Sękowski was one of the drivers whose driving style particularly attracted fans.

“I can’t hold back my tears, I can’t believe what happened. Why them? I saw him in action many times, always smiling, a nice man, even though I didn’t know Artur personally. Don’t write nonsense to all the stupidly wise. Today we are all in mourning, a great man died,” wrote Grzegorz Garbicz in a comment to the previously quoted Nysa Rally entry on social media.

During his career, Sękowski won, among others: Rally Małopolski, Rally Barbórka or Rally Nyska. His greatest successes were in the PRO3, RWD, Classic and Historic Open +2000 classes.
