False alarms and threats of attacks. The police detained a well-known lawyer
A well-known Warsaw lawyer was detained by the police. Investigators accuse him of sending false notifications about attacks on the most important people in the country.
Information about the detention was provided on Sunday by the Minister of Interior and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński. He said this was another person detained in connection with false alarms and impersonating other people.
According to investigators, a 48-year-old resident of Warsaw allegedly sent notifications to state institutions and public bodies regarding alleged preparations for attacks. The correspondence contained information suggesting a threat to the President of the Republic of Poland and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The police entered the apartment by force
Officers from the Warsaw Department for Combating Criminal Terror and Homicide carried out the project together with the Warsaw-Śródmieście District Prosecutor’s Office. The police forcefully entered one of the apartments in Warsaw.
During the search, electronic equipment was seized, including laptops, mobile phones, memory cards and pen drives. The officers also found service badges, weapons and ammunition. But that’s not the end. There were also documents belonging to other people in the apartment, including: ID cards, driving licenses and residence cards. Additionally, the police discovered ammunition and 10 artillery shells in the detainee’s car.
Seven charges and three-month arrest for a Warsaw lawyer
The prosecutor’s office presented seven charges against the 48-year-old. These include sending false information about planned attacks, impersonating people who previously held high public functions, hiding other people’s documents and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.
The court agreed to the investigators’ request and imposed a three-month pre-trial detention on the suspect. For the alleged acts, he faces a sentence of up to eight years in prison.
A series of false alarms in Poland
In May, the services intervened several times in connection with information about alleged explosives or threats to life. False alarms led, among others, to police operations at the property of Jarosław Kaczyński, in the apartment of the head of Republika TV and in the premises belonging to the mother of President Karol Nawrocki.
In response to these events, the Ministry of the Interior and Administration established a special team with the participation of cybersecurity experts, NASK specialists and officers of the Internal Security Agency. According to Minister Marcin Kierwiński, five people have been detained so far in cases related to causing false alarms.
