F-35 over Poland and an unexpected moment on TVP. “I’m already excited.”
There was a funny mistake during TVP’s coverage while waiting for the F-35 to arrive. The presenter was convinced that a fighter plane appeared on the screen.
Waiting for the historic arrival of the first Polish F-35s aroused great emotions not only among the military and aviation observers. During the broadcast on TVP Info from the 32nd Tactical Air Base in Łask, an unusual and funny situation occurred.
F-35 or stork? An unusual scene during a TVP broadcast
A flying bird appeared on the screen, and the TVP Info host was convinced for a moment that the long-awaited fighter jets were arriving. A moment later, she corrected the mistake herself.
– (…) The F-35 will land at 11:15, ladies and gentlemen, so, oh, it’s not the F-35, it’s just a stork on our screens at the moment, and I’m already a little excited that it’s there, but it’s not – said the TVP Info journalist on air.
A humorous exchange of words quickly broke out in the TVP studio. There were comments that everyone was already “oversensitive”, and the presenters noted that even birds had gathered to observe the event.
– (…) Well, as you can see the beautiful Polish welcome, not only us, but also the birds gathered to admire from up close what we can from the perspective of the ground (…) you can also see the guests gathered there in Łask. Everyone’s eyes are on the sky, looking for the sight of the F-35 – said the TVP reporter.
F-35s flew over Westerplatte, Warsaw and Wawel
The emotions were justified. On that day, Polish F-35s performed a symbolic flight over three important places in the country. The formation appeared over Westerplatte, then over Warsaw, where it flew along the Vistula River, and later over Krakow and Wawel.
The culmination of the events was the ceremony of official acceptance of the aircraft into the Polish Armed Forces in Łask. The ceremony was attended by, among others: President Karol Nawrocki, Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and representatives of the US authorities.
F-35 “Husarz” have become a new force in Polish aviation
Poland ordered 32 F-35 aircraft manufactured by the American company Lockheed Martin. The contract was signed in 2020 and its value was USD 4.6 billion. The first three machines arrived in Łask in May.
The fighters were named “Husarz”. They are equipped with stealth technology that makes it difficult to detect by enemy radars and advanced data exchange systems. They can also carry modern weapons, including long-range JASSM missiles and AMRAAM air-to-air missiles.
By the end of 2029, Poland is to receive a set of 32 ordered machines. The military emphasized that the F-35 was the biggest technological leap in the history of Polish military aviation.
