After finding a suspicious package, the services had to evacuate one of the terminals of London Gatwick airport. On the same day and for the same reason, a controlled explosion was carried out outside the United States Embassy.
According to Reuters, citing the authorities of Gatwick airport located near London, the services had to evacuate a significant number of people in one of the terminals. The reason was a “security incident”. The police and a team of sappers were called to the scene.
Evacuation of London Gatwick airport
The alarm was raised after a “suspicious, prohibited item” was found in one of the luggage. A security cordon was established at the airport, and the police asked people not to approach the terminal area.
The incident caused numerous transport difficulties. Passengers who were just going to the airport were advised to postpone their flights to later dates. In addition, train traffic was suspended, which prevented them from stopping at Gatwick Airport station.
Loud bang near the US Embassy
On the same day, a similar incident occurred in another part of the city. A suspicious package was found near the United States Embassy in London. For security reasons, the Metropolitan Police closed Ponton Road in front of the embassy.
The network immediately circulated information about a loud bang that Londoners heard near the American embassy. As explained in a statement by the Metropolitan Police, sappers had to carry out a controlled explosion to neutralize the package.
– We are aware of speculation about an incident near the US Embassy. A security cordon was placed in her area as a precaution while officers investigated the suspicious package, Metropolitan Police officers explained.
