Passengers have been waiting for a direct train connection to the Modlin airport for years. As announced by Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA, the inconvenient transfers will soon come to an end. A tender was announced for the construction of a railway section that will connect the terminal with the main station in the city. “The investment will be a great convenience for thousands of travelers every day,” says the Minister of Infrastructure, Dariusz Klimczak. However, you will have to wait a while to see the effects.
From Warsaw to Modlin airport by train
Getting to the Modlin airport from Warsaw is not particularly troublesome. On the Koleje Mazowieckie website you can easily buy a combined ticket for the train and the bus that passengers board when reaching the Modlin station. By this means of transport, they continue their journey to the terminal building. In total, the journey from Warszawa Centralna, including a transfer in Modlin, takes 63 minutes.
However, residents and tourists dream of a reliable and faster way, i.e. a direct train. After years of announcements, Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA has taken an important step towards implementing this project. Last month, a tender was announced for the construction of a railway connection to the Warsaw-Modlin Masovian Airport.
Fast train later this decade
The investment will include: a double-track route with a length of approx. 5.5 km, a new station at the airport terminal, an additional track and a 200-meter platform at the Modlin station, as well as a freight station. “In addition, the investment will include the construction of three road viaducts – along national road No. 62, district road No. 2413W and an internal road serving the airport. This will facilitate efficient and collision-free traffic in the port area,” we read.
Construction works will start in 2027, and the new line is to be built by the end of 2029. The direct train will also enable quick access to Modlin Airport not only from Warsaw Central, but also from Chopin Airport.
