Everyone is waiting for this expressway. We have great news

Droga ekspresowa S6

Construction of the western beltway of Szczecin is getting closer. It will be a key section of the S6 expressway.

The investment has already obtained all permits for the implementation of a road investment (ZRID). Soon, the contractors will start their first work, and the whole project will cover up to 49 km of a new route with an impressive tunnel near the Oder.

ZOS. Key project for the region

The West Pomeranian Voivode issued a decision to permit a road investment for all three sections of the western beltway of Szczecin (ZOS) along the S6 with a total length of 49 km. This means that soon the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) will decide tenders for investment contractors. Although the signing of contracts is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025, construction works will start just after their conclusion.

S6 will relieve traffic on other roads

The construction of a new express on the S6 section will significantly relieve traffic on the A6, S3 and current S6 routes, which currently bypass Szczecin from the south and east. Especially in summer numerous traffic jams are formed there. By closing the road ring around Szczecin, communication in the Szczecin agglomeration will gain a completely new quality.

Western bypass of Szczecin. Three stages of construction

The implementation of the investment was divided into three main episodes:

  • Kołbaskowo – Pokłuje (13.6 km)

  • Depresses – Police (11.9 km)

  • Police – Goleniów (23.4 km)

The last fragment of the route arouses special emotions, where the longest road tunnel in Poland will be created-as much as a 5-kilometer tunnel near the Oder.

Tunnel near the Oder. The longest in Poland

The tunnel on the western beltway of Szczecin will be made using the TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) method. It will be a two -outdoor object with an external diameter of almost 15 mi enclosure thickness of 60 cm. In the length of the tunnel there are 19 evacuation crossings between the pipes. The deepest point of the structure will be 51 m below the ground level, and the road will reach a depth of up to 45 m. Access to the tunnel will have a length of about 600 m.

Shortening routes and benefits for POLIC

The new beltway will particularly relieve Polica. Currently, travel from Police to the Goleniów North junction (S3/S6) requires 58 km. After the investment is completed, this distance will be shortened to 23 km, and travel time will decrease several times. In addition, truck traffic will be led out of the center of Szczecin, including vehicles heading for chemical plants in Police.

When will the construction of ZOS end?

According to the GDDKiA schedule, the completion of the construction of sections Kołbaskowo – Dłuje and Dłuje – Police is planned for 2028. The most complex fragment with the tunnel near the Oder is to be put into use in 2032.

The western beltway of Szczecin on S6 is a project that will not only change the transport landscape of the region, but also ensure safety, comfort and time saving for thousands of drivers.
