Europe’s Underrated Jewel: A Short Trip That Will Spend You Pennies Here
Fairytale landscapes, beautiful castles and low cost of stay. What more could you want to plan a trip to an underrated gem of Europe?
When traveling around Europe, we like to choose southern destinations, where we can warm up in the fall and early spring. When planning trips, it is also worth looking around for other countries, where we will not spend much, and the impressions will certainly be unforgettable.
Beautiful landscapes and low prices
Romania is sometimes called the underrated gem of Europe. It is a country with its own problems – it is associated with poverty, and last year had the highest percentage of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion in the European Union.
Its capital, Bucharest, may evoke associations with Poland in the 90s, a bit less modern and “Western” than today. However, don’t be discouraged. Tourists will find many beautiful spots and stunning views here – mainly due to the fairy-tale landscapes.
The suggested attractions were posted on TikTok by traveler Kajetano. In Romania, he went to the famous palace of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, Peleș Palace and a water park.
For the four-day trip, he paid a total of PLN 850, including flights and accommodation. It must be admitted that this is a very small amount.
Trip to Romania. Dracula’s Castle a magnet for tourists
Among the famous attractions in Romania is the tourist magnet – the Gothic Bran Castle (about three hours from Bucharest). It is considered the seat of Count Dracula from Bram Stoker’s novel, although the original vampire count did not live here. There is also a museum inside that draws heavily on this iconic work of literature. From my experience, I can recommend a trip to this town in autumn. In the October sun, the castle and its surroundings look truly beautiful.
In addition, Romania is a safe country for travelers. “There is no particular crime risk in Romania, but you should be careful in large cities (around train stations, marketplaces, and on public transport), where pickpocketing is common,” informs the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
