I have the impression that European industry has been ordered to leave Europe – said former Minister of Economy Piotr Woźniak on RMF FM.
Former Minister of Economy Piotr Woźniak was a guest on Thursday’s “Afternoon Talk of RMF FM”. He was asked, among other things, whether – due to the recent layoffs – the European industry is dying. – I have the impression that European industry has been ordered to get out of Europe – said Woźniak.
When asked from whom such an order came, the Minister of Economy in 2005-2007 pointed to the European Commission. – He received an order from the highest authorities, i.e. the European Commission (…) Of course, she didn’t say that, it’s not talked about, but in fact that’s what it all leads to – said the RMF FM guest.
Woźniak about the European Commission
Later in the broadcast, Woźniak explained that the order in question “consists of an extremely offensive climate policy.” – It is also the whole approach to the economy that the European Commission has, which is a decidedly regulatory approach – said the former head of the Ministry of Economy.
Woźniak emphasized that if the industry moved to the USA, “there would be half the problem.” However, this happens only partially. – Some of them, of course, move to the United States. However, some, especially smaller, but equally good and important industries are moving to the Far East: Vietnam, China, Cambodia– said the former Minister of Economy.
The host of the interview, Marek Tejchman, noticed that the Americans had launched a large package of investments and incentives for locating industry there – IRA (Inflation Reduction Act). According to the former Minister of Economy, “encouragement” is the key word.
– The IRA is all about giving incentives. Companies come and say: “I have modified my technological process”, I produce, for example, carrots and combs. “I have modified my machine so that it now consumes 3% less fuel. Now I am asking for a subsidy.” And he gets it – explained the guest of the program.
– In Europe, when someone says: “I modified mine”, they tell him: “Good, but you know that someone else modified the same machine in Greece. So you have to get in line for this Greek to get his, and then you will get yours too. And besides, you have to get in line whether you are allowed public assistance or not – added Woźniak, emphasizing that in the US “no one asks anyone about anything like that.”
