Euro 2024 report: A beautiful moment for the German. An unusual request from a Scotsman
The first match at Euro 2024 brought a lot of emotions and goals. However, there was even more going on around this match. Therefore, we have prepared a special report with the best stories from the first day of the championship.
The football madness has begun. On Friday, June 14, the opening ceremony of Euro 2024 took place and the opening match between Germany and Scotland was played. This match was very exciting and we saw the dominance of the hosts of this tournament from the very beginning. Ultimately, this match ended with the score 5-1 after goals by Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, Niclas Fullkrug and Emre Can. The Scots scored an honorary goal after Antonio Rudiger’s own goal.
Euro 2024 opening ceremony
There was a lot going on around this meeting. Therefore, we have prepared a report from the first day of Euro 2024.
– The opening ceremony of Euro 2024 was met with considerable criticism from fans. One user of the website X (formerly Twitter) briefly described it as full of colors. The biggest drawback – in his opinion – was too loud music and muted pyrotechnic effects.
“The best moment: the whole stadium clapped for Franz Beckenbauer. Welcome to Germany,” he wrote.
Other fans also admitted that it was not a top-notch show. There were even words that it could have been one of the worst opening ceremonies and comparisons were made to performances at festivals.
An unusual request to excuse my son’s absence
It wasn’t easy to get tickets for Euro 2024. However, many fans didn’t mind, so they decided to go to Germany anyway to support their teams even from the fan zones. One Scottish fan went a step further and came to the Euro host country with his son. Due to the fact that his offspring is of school age, this would involve a large number of unexcused absences.
Therefore, the father wrote an e-mail to the facility informing him about his son’s upcoming absence:
“I am just writing to let you know that my son will not be attending school from Thursday 13th June until Scotland are eliminated from Euro 2024. We will be going on an educational tour of Germany, visiting several cities where we will explore extreme emotional highs and lows , which only a Scotland fan goes through. I will make sure that Alex prepares a detailed report when he returns,” we read.
The touching story of Emre Can
Finally, we left the story of Emre Can, who was unexpectedly called up to the German national team. The Borussia Dortmund player replaced Aleksandar Pavlovic from Bayern Munich, who had to leave the training camp due to tonsillitis.
Quite unexpectedly, Julian Nagelsmann chose Emre Can and not, for example, Leon Goretzka. The BVB midfielder repaid the coach’s trust and got on the scoresheet in the first match. After the meeting, he commented on what happened:
– Great feeling and crazy story. That’s why we love football. Just two days ago I was on vacation. I got a call on Wednesday and joined the team that evening. I only trained with them once, and today I came on the pitch and scored a goal – he said, quoted by Reuters.
