Energy voucher in 2025. We know what will happen with support for the lowest earners

The energy voucher is needed, we are aware of that in the government. We will make specific decisions at the end of the year, we are analyzing solutions and looking at market trends – said the Minister of Climate Paulina Hennig-Kloska in the program “Onet rano Finansowo”. She added that the shields will be extended for next year.

The energy voucher will be extended for another year – confirmed Paulina Henning-Kloska, Minister of Climate and Environment, in the “Onet Rano Finansowo” program.

— These protections will be extended into next year, because we need to protect households — assured the head of the ministry. She added that a guarantee of money is not everything, because at the same time the ministry is looking for a mechanism that will “on the one hand support people with lower incomes” and on the other “encourage electrification, e.g. own heating”. This could mean that the government wants to reward people who heat their homes with heat pumps, among others, with lower prices.

On Tuesday, August 13, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that next year’s budget would include money for protective measures in connection with rising energy prices. He noted that the aid would be provided to those “who have it the hardest.” He added that the biggest challenge would be to find a way to “free Poland as quickly as possible from the burden of the most expensive energy in Europe.”

At the same time, he noted that “energy prices cannot be frozen indefinitely” because, in the end, “Poles were paying anyway”.

– It’s not like we as the government decide that energy prices are lower than the market results in and it doesn’t cost anyone anything. It costs taxpayers because we have to make up the difference (to energy companies – ed.) – said Tusk.

Energy voucher. Applications can now be submitted

From August 1, applications for an energy voucher can be submitted. It is available to households whose monthly income does not exceed PLN 1,700 per person or PLN 2,500 for a single-person household. For a single-person household, the energy voucher will be PLN 300, and for a four-person household, PLN 500. Interestingly, people who heat their homes with electricity can count on twice the fees.

An application for an energy voucher can be submitted via the mObywatel application. In addition, documents can also be submitted via the ePUAP platform or at the municipal office.

Energy voucher amount

The amount of the energy voucher depends on the number of people in a given household and is:

  • PLN 300 for a single-person household

  • PLN 400 for a household of 2 to 3 people

  • 500 for a household of 4 to 5 people

  • PLN 600 for a household of at least 6 people

If the main source of heating is electricity and this is reported to the central register of building emissions, an energy voucher is granted in the amount of:

  • PLN 600 – single-person household

  • PLN 800 – for a multi-person household consisting of 2 to 3 people

  • PLN 1,000 – for a multi-person household consisting of 4 to 5 people

  • PLN 1,200 – for a multi-person household of at least 6 people.

Who is the energy voucher for?

The energy voucher is valid for the period from 1 July 2024 to 31 December 2024 and will be a cash benefit for households whose average income in 2023 did not exceed:

  • PLN 2,500.00 per person in a single-person household,

  • PLN 1,700.00 per person in a multi-person household.

Income will be determined on the basis of art. 3 point 1 of the Act of 28 November 2003 on family benefits (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 323). This refers to net income.
