End of banking through a computer? Santander focuses on the application

Santander Consumer Bank gives up online banking. New customers will use services only through the mobile application.
Santander Consumer Bank announced a significant change in the way electronic banking services are provided. From June 25, 2025, new bank customers will not be able to use a traditional website. Access to the account will be possible only via a mobile application. This change does not include existing customers who have concluded an electronic banking agreement or have a credit limit agreement and a card before the indicated date. They will still be able to log in to the system via the web browser.
New model
Information about the new banking model was provided to clients using official correspondence from the bank. This change was looked at by the Cashless.pl portal, which consulted the SCB press office. Bank representatives explained that the decision was made on the basis of user preference analysis. According to their data, over 92 percent customers using electronic banking only choose a mobile application.
Giving up the website is part of a wide -ranging digital transformation. The bank points out that it focuses on modern, agile technologies that comply with international standards. So -called The “Mobile Only” model is not new on the European financial market – many institutions have already successfully implemented it.
Mobile application
The data of the Polish Bank Association also confirms more and more interest in mobile applications in Poland. At the end of 2024, 24 million customers have already used such solutions, of which 18 million used only applications. Santander Consumer Bank most likely responded to this trend, but not everyone can be satisfied.
For many users – especially older ones – the use of banking services by the computer is still more intuitive and convenient than on the smartphone screen. In the case of SCB, however, it is worth noting that the bank does not keep personal accounts. His customers log in less often to serve daily finance, more often for repayment of credit installments or browsing the history of transaction. The mobile application seems enough for their needs.
In addition, Santander Consumer Bank leaves the possibility of using traditional service – both through the hotline and in one of 268 branches or partner branches.
