Ekstraklasa stadium flooded! Fans (not) allowed into the match
Saturday’s PKO BP Ekstraklasa football match between Cracovia and Pogoń Szczecin was in serious danger. The stadium in Krakow was damaged by heavy rainfall.
Surprising news reached us on Saturday afternoon from Krakow. At 5:30 p.m. the PKO BP Ekstraklasa match between Cracovia and Pogoń Szczecin was to start. However, heavy rains are rolling over Poland, wreaking havoc in the south of the country. The facility on Kałuży Street in Krakow has also been affected by this problem.
Fans entered the stands despite… closed Cracovia stands
There was even a special announcement saying that the match would take place, but without fans. At least that was initially assumed…
“We would like to inform you that the Cracovia Pogoń Szczecin match will take place. After consultation with the security services and due to the fact that as a result of heavy rainfall there was serious damage to the stadium infrastructure, which we are unable to repair in a short time, we cannot open the stands. This could affect the safety of fans. We sincerely apologize!” – Marzena Młynarczyk-Warwas, spokeswoman for the Krakow club, said via platform X.
The match started at 5:30 p.m. There were fans waiting at the stadium gates, but they decided to enter in a tight group, despite the club’s ban. Well, instead of a serious situation, it ended with a cabaret decision.
It turned out that the whole mess ended with a few pieces of information, from which the situation eventually returned to… the starting point. That is, fans in the stands, although in a form that the event organizers certainly did not imagine.
And to make the situation even more bizarre, shortly after the match began, the sun appeared over Krakow. That is, a completely different reality than what could be observed over the capital of Lesser Poland at the time, when it was being considered whether the match should be played on Saturday.
