Just over a month before Easter, egg prices are rising. Experts call not to make stocks, which may result in further increases.

Easter in just over a month. There can be eggs on the holiday table. These have recently been more expensive. Currently, for 10 pieces in supermarkets you have to pay from about 10 to even 16 PLN. In the bazaars, we pay on average from 98 to 1.6 PLN for one rural egg.

Egg prices have risen. How did this happen?

Egg prices are rising due to the deficiency of chickens and bird flu, which decimated the farm. The problem concerns not only our country, but also Germany or the USA. As reported in an interview with Wirtualna Polska, Andrzej Gantner, general director of the Polish Federation of Food Producers, almost 5 million pieces of naoski chickens were minted in Poland.

The rules say clearly that if there is even one case of bird flu in the herd, you need to liquidate the whole. In Germany, the situation is even worse, because there the bird flu appeared in a much larger area, so even more herds were broken – says the head of the Polish Federation of Food Producers.

The expert explains that the rebuilding of herds lasts even several months, which is why there is a deficiency of eggs on the market, which results in prices. – Especially that there is quite a high demand for Polish eggs from other countries. All this is applied to the fact that these prices can actually grow until the pale of the herds does not rebuild and the production does not start again. In Poland, the problem is that there was no rank of heels of layers last year – explains Gantner.

Sugar replay?

The head of the Polish Federation of Food Producers warns against panic, which – as in the case of sugar a few years ago – can lead to further price increases. – We hope that the egg panic, which is slowly beginning to shape, will not cause the same effect as in sugar, where it just caused Poles to buy sugar supplies, and its price jumped three times – says Gantner.

The expert advises consumers to remain calm. In his opinion, it is unlikely that there is a lack of retail eggs before Easter.
