The situation occurred last Sunday, August 10. According to the information provided by the National Crisis Management Agency (Afad), Western Turkey was hit by a 6.1 magnitude earthquake at a depth of 11 kilometers. The shocks could be felt within a 200 km radius. among others in Istanbul, i.e. the largest and most populous city in a country famous as a cultural, commercial and financial center. There are not only residents, but also tourists. Careful should now be exercised.

A strong earthquake could be felt around 19.53 local time in the province of Balikesir. Later, many secondary shocks appeared, the strongest of them had a magnitude 4.6. According to Associated Press, a total of about 16 buildings collapsed, including a three -story building in the center of Sindirgi – close to the epicenter of shock. Initially, no information was given about the injured persons, now it is known that one person is dead and 29 others were injured.

Afad appealed to people in the vicinity of Istanbul and the entire threatened province for caution and recommended evacuation. Currently, it is important, among others, to avoid entering buildings that may have been damaged.

“Our teams continue to work in the field, and we closely monitor the situation in cooperation with all relevant institutions,” said health minister Kemal Memisoglu.
