Duda announced mourning. These events have been moved or canceled

In connection with the national mourning announced by President Andrzej Duda as at April 26, 2025, some of the mass and entertainment events were canceled or transferred to another date.
The president decided to mourning in connection with the death of Pope Francis. On April 26, the funeral ceremony of the former hierarchy of the church is planned. In connection with the president’s decision, the organizers decided to cancel or transfer to another date of some events scheduled for next Saturday.
National mourning on April 26. What events were canceled?
One of the largest cultural events scheduled for April 26 was the outdoor concert “The Millennium of the Polish Crown” organized by Polish Television. It was to take place at Błonia PGE Narodowy in Warsaw and be the culminating point of the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of the coronation of Bolesław the Brave.
Due to the national mourning, the concert was transferred to Sunday, April 27. In the new date, according to previous announcements, leading Polish artists will perform: Kayah, Doda, Organk, Król, Bovska, Vix.n, Grzegorz Hyży, Margaret, Zalia, Oskar Cyms, Stanisław Soyka and others. The show will be broadcast live on TVP1 and on the TVP VOD platform from 20:00.
Also the ceremonial National Assembly, planned in Gniezno on the occasion of the Millennium Coronation of the First King of Poland, was postponed. Originally, it was to take place on April 26, but by the decision of the parliamentary authorities and the president’s office, the deadline was changed to Friday, April 25.
The event will take place in the hall Mieczysław Łopatka with the participation of the most important people in the state, including the president, prime minister and marshals of both chambers of parliament. It was sublime and was tribling not only for Polish history, but also for Pope Francis.
National mourning. There is a clear position of the government
For now, there is no information about the transfer to another date or the cancellation of other large mass events. However, according to applicable law, there is no such compulsion.
In the context of national mourning, the head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Jan Grabiec, took an important voice, who in the program “Kotka nad i” on TVN24 explained the consequences of the president’s decision and applicable regulations. He noted that nationwide mourning is above all an expression of respect for emotions and social sensitivity.
– We are undoubtedly dealing with an important event for millions of Poles. We want to somehow respect these feelings and hence the decision of the Prime Minister to give countersignates – explained Grabiec, referring to the decision of Andrzej Duda.
He also referred to the issue of bans and orders in force on the day of mourning.
– The most important order is to reduce state flags before state offices half -offs – he said, pointing to the Act on the emblem, colors and anthem of the Commonwealth. With regard to mass events, he emphasized that there are no formal legal prohibitions. “It is a matter of sensitivity, sense of individual organizers,” he said, explaining that “cultural events can take place.”
Performances, concerts and sports events
He also added that there would be no sanctions for organizing a performance or concert on the day of mourning if its character is adapted to the circumstances. Referring to sporting events, he said:
– This is one hundred percent decision of sports relationships or individual leagues. Certainly not administration.
Grabiec was also asked about the presence of Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the funeral of the Pope in Italy.
– In the next hours the Prime Minister will present his decision. Undoubtedly, a delegation in which the president, the Speaker of the Sejm, the Speaker of the Senate participates, is already very worthy, I would say, representation in Rome – he concluded.
