The government decided to extend the CPN package again. It will be valid until at least mid-June.

At the end of March, the government adopted a package called “Fuel Prices Lower” (CPN), which aims to alleviate the effects of high fuel prices on consumers and entrepreneurs. The package includes, among others: reduction of the VAT rate on fuels from 23%. up to 8%, a reduction in excise duty to the minimum EU levels (by PLN 29/l for petrol and PLN 28/l for diesel), as well as the introduction of a maximum retail price for fuels.

CPN at least until mid-June

During these two months, the CPN was extended several times. Such a decision was also made on Thursday, when two amendments to the regulations of the Minister of Finance and Economy were published in the Journal of Laws. They concern the reduction of excise duty rates on selected motor fuels and the application of reduced rates of tax on goods and services (VAT). The new regulations extend the validity period of lower fuel taxes until at least June 15.

This decision is not a surprise. The extension of the CPN by another two weeks was suggested a few days ago by the Minister of Energy, Miłosz Motyka, on Radio Zet.

This is a decision that will result from the decision and recommendation of the Minister of Finance, but I believe that it should be extended by two weeks, until mid-June at least – said the head of the Ministry of Energy in the program “Guest of Radio Zet”. – The situation on the markets is cautiously optimistic and I think this will be visible at stations in the coming days – he added.

When asked whether this means that fuel prices will be lower, Motyka replied: “There are many indications of this.” – This is determined by an appropriately calculated algorithm, which is a derivative of the market situation, but it is much better than a few weeks or a dozen or so days ago. But it’s not yet time to decide whether to leave the package– explained the Radio Zet guest.

A recent survey by SW Research for “Wprost” shows that nearly 70 percent Poles expect the CPN package to be extended until the end of this year. Only every tenth survey participant (11.1%) has a different opinion, and 19.8% has no opinion on this matter.
