Dramatic moments at a holiday resort. Evacuation of a hotel full of tourists

On the evening of August 17, a fire broke out in one of the popular hotels in Costa Adeje in the south of Tenerife. A fire broke out in the garage of Hovima La Pinta in Torviscas, and heavy smoke forced the services to evacuate employees and hundreds of tourists. According to the website nakanarach.pl, this four-star facility is also offered by Polish travel agencies. Police said no one was injured during the incident.

Hundreds of tourists evacuated from the hotel

The scale of the action was much larger than the first information suggested. As nakanarach.pl writes, about 700 guests and employees were removed from the building due to smoke. Everyone had to remain outside during rescue operations while firefighters extinguished the fire and checked the facility. Hovima La Pinta is a six-story hotel with 229 rooms, located right next to the sandy beach in one of the most popular resorts in southern Tenerife.

According to preliminary findings, the fire most likely started underground, in the garage area. “The exact cause has not yet been determined,” reports Canarian Weekly. The area remained secured for several hours while the services assessed the condition of the building. Only after the activities were completed were the guests allowed to return to the hotel. The extent of the losses has not yet been announced.

Two fires in one day

It turns out that the fire in Tenerife was not the only one that occurred that day in the Canary Islands. On Monday, August 17, a fire was also reported to have appeared in Gran Canaria, in an accommodation facility in the Santa Catalina district of Las Palmas.

Nakanarach.pl points out that these cases are not isolated. “In Spain, there have already been eight fires in accommodation facilities in 2026,” we read. Previously, similar events were reported, among others: in Lanzarote, Mallorca, Gran Canaria and Murcia, and most of them occurred during the peak summer tourist season.
