Police have broken up a dangerous kidnapping operation against a Poznań entrepreneur. The man held in the trunk was rescued after a dramatic manhunt.

Three men face up to ten years in prison for kidnapping a Poznań entrepreneur. After several hours of searching, the police arrested the perpetrators at a gas station, where it turned out that the kidnapped man was being held in the trunk of a car.

Dramatic kidnapping in Poznań

On Monday morning, the Poznań police were notified of the disappearance of the owner of a company in the service sector. According to the report, the entrepreneur was kidnapped straight from his office. – After several hours of intensive operational work, searching recordings from surveillance cameras and gathering information, the investigation led the police to a town near Poznań – reports Junior Inspector Andrzej Borowiak, spokesman for the Greater Poland police.

The pursuit team from the criminal department immediately went to the indicated location. During a patrol near the gas station, a vehicle matching the description of the wanted car was spotted. – In the trunk of this car, officers discovered a tied-up entrepreneur. Two perpetrators were immediately detained. One of them turned out to be a client of the kidnapped businessman. The third suspect was detained two hours later in a different location – Borowiak said.

According to available information, the kidnappers’ motive was to try to force the performance of a certain service. The men appeared at the victim’s office, threatened him, forced him to leave the building and get into the trunk. They also demanded 8 thousand zlotys. During their threats, police officers appeared on the scene, which ended the action – informs Łukasz Wawrzyniak, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Poznań.

Charges and court proceedings

The evidence collected by the police was transferred to the District Prosecutor’s Office of Poznań Nowe Miasto. The suspects were charged with kidnapping and extortion. As reported by prosecutor Łukasz Wawrzyniak, none of the detainees admitted to the acts they were accused of, although one of them gave an explanation consistent with the investigators’ findings.

According to Polish law, such crimes are punishable by up to 10 years in prison. All three suspects were temporarily arrested at the request of the police and prosecutor’s office. The court decided to place them in temporary arrest, but with the possibility of conditional release. The prosecutor’s office is considering filing an appeal against this decision, Wawrzyniak added.

The case is ongoing, and the Poznań police are continuing their activities aimed at fully explaining the circumstances of the incident.
