There was an unexpected, brutal tragedy in Mexico. Valeria Márquez, a 23-year-old Beauty influencer, was shot during a live broadcast in her beauty salon in Zapopan. The death of a young woman, followed by almost 200,000 people, she again drew attention to a wave of violence against women in Mexico.

The tragedy took place on May 13, 2025 in Zapopan, Jalisco. Valeria Márquez, known for publishing the content related to beauty and lifestyle, conducted live on a thymper from her beauty salon, Blossom The Beauty Lounge. During the report to the premises, a man came in, who asked: “Are you Valeria?” When the woman confirmed, the attacker fired, hit her chest and head. Márquez died on the spot.

A few moments before the influencer attack received a package with a plush toy. In the recording you can hear, as he says: “They go” and then silences the microphone. After a while, arrows are fired. The broadcast continued until someone raised the phone and ended the report. It is known that the investigation is conducted in terms of women’s (femicidio), i.e. the murder of a woman because of her sex. The authorities do not rule out that the motive of the crime could have been threats at Márquez – most likely by her ex -partner with whom she had a conflict.

Valeria Márquez was a popular figure in Mexican social media – she had over 200,000 Observers on Tiktoku and Instagram. Her death caused a wave of indignation and regret among Internet users and drew attention to the problem of violence against women in Mexico. According to data, 11 women die every day in this country. In 2024, there were 847 such cases, and in the first quarter of 2025 there were already 162. These crimes are often particularly brutal and are often motivated by hatred towards sex.
