Drama at a holiday resort. Not all tourists survived
It was supposed to be a peaceful diving cruise, but for some of the passengers it ended tragically. The boat sank and many people did not survive. Some were transported to safety.
The incident occurred on Monday, November 25, off the coast of the Egyptian resort of Marsa Alam. This is where thousands of tourists relax every year, including: from the offers of travel agencies. In winter, local holidays are very popular, after all, you can count on sun and high temperatures. Unfortunately, this time some people’s vacation ended in disaster. The tour boat sank.
Boat sinking in Egypt
The boat in question, named Sea Story, was located on the west coast of the Red Sea and was carrying 31 tourists. There were a total of 45 people on board. According to local media, one of the crew members sent an SOS signal at 5:30 a.m., after which he disappeared from radar and contact was lost. The sinking occurred near Shaab Satayah. It is known that as many as several dozen passengers did not survive the accident.
Red Sea Provincial Governor Amr Hanafi, Maj. Gen. Amr Hanafy, said an aircraft and navy units were able to airlift several found tourists by helicopter. They received the necessary medical care. It has not been revealed how many people are still missing.
Search operations are ongoing on site to locate everyone on board and rescue the injured. So far, 16 people have received help and they were tourists from different countries. They all spent time on a multi-day diving cruise near the coastal town of Marsa Alam.
The cause of the disaster is unknown
It is difficult to obtain information about the cause of the tragedy at this time. It is known that the boat left the port of Ghalib in Marsa Alam on Sunday, November 24, and planned to return to the marina in Hurghada on November 29. The cruise ended unexpectedly quickly.
The ship that sank was a 144-foot recreational model built in 2022 that could accommodate up to 32 passengers. There are 18 twin cabins on board, which are used by tourists going on diving trips.
The decision to swim in this area was nothing unusual. The Red Sea is a popular place for diving, famous for, among others, from coral reefs and rich marine life in Egypt. Tourists use similar attractions very often, but such disasters rarely occur.
