Donald Tusk and Karol Nawrocki agree on this matter. Will this be a breakthrough?
Olympic Games in Poland? It seems that this topic may be one of the few in which both Donald Tusk and Karol Nawrocki speak with one voice.
The guest of Radio ZET was the Minister of Sport and Tourism, Jakub Rutnicki. The representative of Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government did not hide his optimism about how the country’s sports sector could develop in the near and distant future.
Another sports event in the country would certainly be an element that could additionally motivate Poles to physical activity. What’s more, the highest possible event – the Olympic Games.
– We are perceived as an incredibly dynamically developing country with great potential, but also as a very safe country. The Games may be a great opportunity to further promote our beloved homeland, but also to show that we can do it, Radio ZET quotes Minister Rutnicki.
Olympic Games in Poland? Common direction of the president and government
It is worth recalling that President Karol Nawrocki also spoke optimistically in the context of the Olympic Games in Poland. Moreover, the “head of state” had a meeting with the head of the International Olympic Committee, Kristy Coventry, during the winter part of the Olympic competition, which we reported on in WPROST.
– I pointed out that this is a common position of both the president and the Polish government. It’s a thing that unites, not divides. We are the twentieth economy in the world, we belong to the G20, I also emphasized this – recalls Nawrocki’s words to Radio ZET.
What date of the Olympic Games in Poland would actually be realistic? The range is, it must be admitted, quite large.
The first signals appeared in September 2023, when during the European Congress of Sports and Tourism in Zakopane, then-President Andrzej Duda announced the target date of 2023. Duda was accompanied by Kamil Bortniczuk, who was then the head of the Ministry of Sport, and the president of the Polish Olympic Committee, Radosław Piesiewicz.
Almost a year later, Prime Minister Tusk suggested that there were chances, but the optimistic version was 2040, and the second solution was 2044 and the organization of the Summer Olympics in Poland.
The last two Olympic editions are highly praised events on the Old Continent – both in the winter version in Italy (2026) and in the summer version in France (2024).
