The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate announced that he was looking for passengers of three international flights. It is about people who were close to a child from Poland.

On Tuesday, March 18, GIS organized a press conference, dedicated to a diploma of diphtheria in Poland, dedicated last week. As officials assured, the search for people who were exposed to infection are underway.

– We sent information to two interchange countries and the detailed lists of passengers are underway, who, where and what places he occupied on the plane – said the Chief Sanitary Inspector Paweł Grzesiowski at the conference.

He noted that we are talking about passengers of three international connections, including a flight to Warsaw, in which Polish citizens participated. He added that the epidemiological supervision had already covered people from the patient’s immediate environment. Those who stayed with him in one room without any security.

Currently mentioned people have been quarantine. The services do not rule out taking samples from them, administering an antibiotic and preventive instruction of these people.

Paweł Grzesiowski also informed about the efforts related to the treatment of a 6-year-old patient. Initially, the child was diagnosed with symptoms of respiratory disease, and a diphtheria shortly later. He assured that all possible therapies were used, including the administration of membrane serum.

An adult patient, also suspected of getting sick, received the same serum. The membrane antioxid was secured in the government reserve agency. The decision to issue it was made only a few hours after obtaining a diagnosis about the boy.
Diphtheria again in Poland after many years

It is already known that the sick 6-year-old has recently returned with his family from Africa, from Zanzibar. He was not vaccinated on diphtheria, although it is mandatory in Poland. As immunity is lost with age, vaccination should be additionally renewed every 10 years. Especially before the exotic holidays.

Experts remind you that diphtheria is a dangerous infectious disease that can be infected by coughing, sneezing or even only close contact with the patient. This is why the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate has already begun extensive actions to prevent further spread of the disease.
