Storm Benjamin has caused many disruptions to travelers in the Netherlands since Thursday. The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued strong wind warnings. The wind was the strongest in the west of the country, where orange alerts were announced. The orange warning was lifted on Monday, but strong winds remain along the coast.

The NL Times website reported the cancellation of nearly 200 flights.

“Due to strong winds caused by Storm Benjamin, flights will be delayed or canceled from 6:00 p.m. Traveling through Schiphol Airport today? Please take weather conditions into account and plan your trip carefully,” the statement said. About 200 flights were cancelled, mostly by KLM.

Although the hurricane was expected to last until Friday morning, difficulties are expected during the day. Many arrivals, including several from Poland, will be delayed or canceled. Okay. LOT from Warsaw (LO265) will experience a 20-minute delay. KLM arrivals number KL 1314 from Warsaw and KL 1302 from Gdańsk were also canceled.

Work on the tracks was suspended

The hurricane also affected rail transport. There were no high-speed trains between Amsterdam and Breda for some time. Authorities advised travelers to monitor weather forecasts, plan their trips carefully and leave earlier than usual. In The Hague, a tree fell on a overhead line and it was seriously damaged.

Maintenance work on the tracks has been suspended due to potentially hazardous conditions.

Repairs to tracks and power lines will be postponed until conditions are safe. Rail operator ProRail said full repair work would resume when it was safe to do so.

Winds will decrease as the day progresses, but on Friday and into the weekend the weather will be stormy and autumnal with scattered rain showers.
