Diamond League in Poland – Sports Event of 2024!

Last year was special for Memorial and full of records. The competition organized in memory of Kamila Skolimowska was held for the 15th time. The anniversary edition was the best meeting in the world in 2024, even ahead of the two-day Diamond League finals in Brussels in the World Athletics ranking.

30 records during one event

46 medalists of the Olympic Games in Paris, including as many as 13 Olympic champions, took part in the Silesian Stadium. A total of 30 different records were broken during the competition, including 11 best meeting results and two world records. One of them, Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s 3,000-meter record, has just been recognized as the highlight of the entire season in the Diamond League.

– And then there is the extraordinary feat of Mondo Duplantis, who once again showed that nothing is impossible for him in pole vaulting. – says Piotr Małachowski. – The “Kama” Memorial itself received 97,178 points in the World Athletics ranking and became the best one-day meeting in history. – adds the sports director of the competition.

– The sports results were extraordinary, and what was happening in the stands was equally impressive – Marek Plawgo, Memorial’s communication director, is happy. – Over 42,000 spectators attended. This is our record and at the same time almost 70% more viewers than during the previous edition. This shows that the Memorial enjoys not only prestige, but also popularity. We are also happy because we saw many families, happy children and smiling faces among the viewers. The memorial is an event where everyone will feel good – adds Plawgo. According to a survey of fans conducted by Pentagon Research, almost everyone assessed the meeting very positively, appreciating, above all, the great atmosphere of the competition, the opportunity to see sports competition, great stars, and safety at the stadium.

Event of the year according to “Przegląd Sportowy”

These achievements were appreciated by the jury of the Plebiscite of “Przegląd Sportowy” and in the most important sports summary of the year in Poland awarded the Memorial the Event of the Year. For the second time in a row. – JWe are proud of the fact that this great athletics festival takes place in Silesia – says Wojciech Saługa, Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship – Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial has climbed to the top in sports thanks to the effort and commitment of many people who deserve great thanks. I am convinced that there are still quite a few peaks ahead of us, because the competition is developing extremely dynamically and arousing more and more interest, also in Silesia – adds Marshal Saługa.

Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial on August 16

An opportunity to reach another peak on August 16, because that’s when the 16th Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial will take place. It is already known that the world record holders from last year, Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Mondo Duplantis, will take part in the competition. Now the organizers have confirmed that more stars will appear at the Silesian Stadium – Natalia Bukowiecka and Ewa Swoboda. – The memorial is a special event that has a permanent place in my calendar. Here in 2023 I broke my personal record and I feel great every time. These are magical moments – says Bukowiecka, who took third place in the 400-meter run at the last Memorial, and a year earlier she broke her personal record at this distance.

This year, the Memorial fits perfectly into the competition calendar. The World Championships will take place a month later, which means that most of the players will be in good shape at the Silesian Stadium. – The World Championships are the target event for everyone, but I want to show my best at the Memorial. I hope for great support from the audience, because with the support of Polish fans, running is extraordinary – says Ewa Swoboda, who will, of course, start in the 100-meter race.

And perhaps more than once, because the best Polish sprinter, just like last year, plans to invite track and field enthusiasts to run together on the day before the competition. – The memorial pursues many goals. Professional competitions at the highest level are, of course, the main goal, but we also want to promote sports and a healthy lifestyle among Poles. And show that thanks to passion, commitment and hard work, dreams can come true – adds Małachowski.
