Detention of the head of the Polish Olympic Committee. The court decided on the arrest
At the end of August, the head of the Polish Olympic Committee was arrested. Now the court has decided on the complaint against the preventive measure in the form of arrest requested by the prosecutor’s office.
By the court’s decision, Radosław Piesiewicz will remain in custody.
The decision of the justice system was announced by prosecutor Justyna Grzesiak, as well as by the defender of the president of the Polish Olympic Committee – attorney Jędrzej Kupczyński.

As the Polish Press Agency recalled, the head of the Polish Olympic Committee was detained over two weeks ago in Warsaw. Then he was taken to the prosecutor’s office by officers of the Central Anticorruption Bureau to the Silesian National Prosecutor’s Office, where he was charged in the investigation into the Zondacrypto scandal.
PK representatives applied to the district court (court of first instance) for a three-month detention for Pisiewicz. The justice system considered it positively, but the decision was met with an appeal from the defense of the head of the Olympic Committee. On Monday (September 14), the District Court in Katowice upheld the previous decision.
It is worth recalling that for the crimes Piesiewicz is suspected of committing, he faces from six months to even eight years in prison. He was supposed to act to the detriment of creditors by recovering funds invested on the bankrupt stock exchange at the expense of other investors. The next allegation concerns paid patronage and invoking influence in the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection.
Piesiewicz’s detention was widely commented on by the ruling camp, including: by the Minister of Sport and Tourism. “Such a person should never be the president of the Polish Olympic Committee. We have been talking about it for months, the sports community has also been talking about it. He discredited Polish Olympism and used the image of Polish athletes. We are waiting for information from the prosecutor’s office,” Jakub Rutnicki wrote on the X platform.

In. Piesiewicz’s arrest, the PK issued a press release in the afternoon.
“Today, the District Court in Katowice did not accept the complaint of Radosław P.’s defense attorney and upheld the decision to apply pre-trial detention to the suspect. Thus, another court shared the prosecutor’s office’s position that the collected evidence indicates a high probability of committing the alleged crimes by the suspect, and further isolating preventive measures against him are necessary,” investigators said.
