Dawid Kubacki’s disaster in TCS! Where has the old master gone?

Dawid Kubacki did not manage to get through the opening qualifications of the 73rd Four Hills Tournament. On Sunday in Oberstdorf we will see the remaining four Poles.
The 73rd Four Hills Tournament began with training and qualifications on Saturday (December 29). According to tradition, the first arena of competition is the German Oberstdorf. Coach Thomas Thurnbichler decided that Kamil Stoch would not be among those called up. His place was taken by Dawid Kubacki.
TCS: Dawid Kubacki out of the competition in Oberstdorf!
The Olympic medalist from the Beijing Games (2022) did not take part in the World Cup just before the start of TCS, having a break during the weekend in Engelberg, Switzerland. What effect did this have? It’s hard to say for sure. Kubacki, who won the TCS in the 2019/20 season and was second in the 2022/23 season, behind the then great Noweg Halvor Egner Granerud, lost in Saturday’s qualifications. The Pole jumped only 115.5 meters.
Stoch in Engelberg – in the second competition – did not make it to the final series. In the case of the three-time TCS winner (last time in the 2020/21 season), there was also no great form. Additionally, it should be remembered that Stoch himself resigned from the 73rd TCS.
However, Kubacki was very disappointing in Oberstdorf and these are the facts. Especially since his other friends managed to secure passes for Sunday jumping. Mostly, the jumps were very average, with only Piotr Żyła being an exception. After his jump, the Pole was even the qualifying leader for some time.
Let us add that Żyła jumped 132.5 meters. For Polish fans, this is currently the biggest reason for satisfaction, and we are talking about a player who was outside the top ten qualifications. And it doesn’t look like there will be any more optimism in the coming days of TCS, as we mentioned, quoting the words of Adam Małysz himself.
However, we wish Poles to surprise and rub the noses of experts who do not promise Poland spectacular successes during this year’s competition.
