Dangerous slopes in the Tatra Mountains. Here the thaw took its toll

The weather in Poland is getting more and more spring. The situation even applies to mountain regions that should be filled with frost and snow. Due to the atmospheric changes on the slopes it got dangerous.
The Tatra Volunteer Ambulance Service of TOPR mentions a dangerous situation on its website. It is about large sunlight on known ski slopes, which can now be very treacherous to tourists. Even if it seems that driving on them is safe in reality, it doesn’t have to be true.
Too much sun in the Tatra Mountains
Through high temperatures, which mastered not only lowland, but also mountainous areas, the snow in the Tatra Mountains began to melt very quickly. According to IMGW data, on Kasprowy Wierch, the snow cover has not yet exceeded 86 cm, while in February it should be on average 130.5 cm. This involves an increase in avalanche threat that is still in force.
“The snow cover is generally connected well, but on some steep slopes it is moderately bound. Lawina’s liberation is usually possible with high additional load, especially on the steep slopes indicated in the avalanche. The spontaneous descent of very large avalanches is unlikely, “we read in the TOPR message.
Dangerous slopes according to TOPR
Speaking of avalanche -related danger, you must be careful, among others near Kasprowy Wierch. Recent accidents may also be a determinant of where it is better not to appear now. For example, a few days ago one of the tourists got stuck in the Western Tatras on the ridge between the shovel (1957 m above sea level) and Jarząbczy Wierch (2137 m above sea level).
TOPR indicates to be careful even at the highest peaks, where we will note 4-5 ℃. In the lower parts of the Tatra Mountains, 11-12 degrees C. is waiting for us, and in Podhale 15-16 ℃. Southern slopes can be particularly risky, because the snow on them is not durable and quickly gets wet. You must also be careful in the northern parts.
Although on the one hand we are talking about sunlight and possible avalanches, on the other, tourists must also watch out for slippery surfaces on the trails. These are getting such a night frost – previously melted snow begins to freeze.
