Danger in a popular resort. Tourists die from poisoning
Mysterious poisonings take place in one of the Asian countries. At least five tourists have already died after drinking local alcohol. Warnings appear.
The situation takes place in the Vang Vieng resort in Laos. It was there that another tragic case of methanol poisoning was reported. Although this place was recently associated with sunny holidays and relaxation, now it is becoming a place of horror. The death toll rises and the mysterious drinks are investigated.
Poisoned tourists in a popular resort
Day by day, the media reports more victims of beverage poisoning in Vang Vieng. It was already loud, among others: about the death of a 19-year-old from Australia who had disturbing symptoms after drinking drinks at a party. On November 22, news spread around the world about a British woman who also did not survive the probable contact with poisonous methanol. It is known that the drinks came from unknown sources.
At the moment, there are a total of five injured people in the same place in a short period of time. All persons are assumed to have had drinks. Although some women with dangerous symptoms were strapped to equipment in the hospital, they ultimately could not be saved. The cause of death was methanol poisoning.
Authorities urge caution
The Asian resort in question is very popular among tourists. Some people arrive at the site completely unaware of recent accidents and poisonings. For this reason, the authorities of many countries are trying to raise awareness of those potentially at risk and appeal for caution. They recommend drinking alcohol carefully in Laos.
The announcement was issued by, among others, the New Zealand authorities. “Travelers are advised to be careful when consuming alcoholic beverages, especially cocktails and drinks made from strong alcohol, which may have been contaminated with harmful substances,” we read. Such an appeal did not appear without a reason. In New Zealand, consular assistance had to be provided to one of the citizens who reported that he felt unwell and might be a victim of methanol poisoning in Vang Vieng.
The U.S. Embassy in Laos is also asking for your consideration. It advises its citizens to buy alcoholic beverages and drinks from licensed liquor stores, bars and hotels and to avoid home-made alcoholic beverages. “Check alcohol bottles for signs of tampering or counterfeiting, such as poorly printed labels or errors on them,” it said.
CNN reports that the Lao authorities have not commented on the matter so far. However, police in Vang Vieng said the incidents were being investigated.
