Barely two weeks after the devastating flood, Spain is facing downpours caused by the DANA phenomenon. 3 thousand people were evacuated.

On Wednesday, the province of Malaga in Andalusia was hit by the worst flooding in 35 years. Heavy rains caused by the DANA phenomenon forced the authorities to preventively close schools, institutes and universities. The activities of hospitals and clinics have been limited to a minimum.

Residents of the autonomous community of Valencia also experienced a tense morning. There was a red warning for downpours on the coast on Thursday morning. In the province of Cullera, 80 liters of rain fell per square meter, but fortunately the rains passed the areas most affected by the floods of October 29. A few hours ago, the AEMET agency reported that the worst was over. The warning has been downgraded to orange on the Valencian coast and the same has been issued for the northern coast of Alicante, where heavy rain is currently falling on the beaches of Denia.

Evacuation in Andalusia, the river flooded

To avoid the tragedies that occurred just two weeks ago, more than 3,000 people were evacuated on Wednesday from their homes in the province of Malaga, located on the banks of the Guadalhorce, Campanilla, Vélez or Benamargosa rivers. El Mundo reports that the latter overflowed in the early afternoon. Campsites and slums in Torre del Mar, where a total of over 1,000 people were staying, were also evacuated. The alert covered the Costa del Sol, with popular tourist resorts such as Marbella and Velez. So far, there is no information about any fatalities due to the weather breakdown. This is how much water fell in Marbella this afternoon.

The situation was dramatic, among others: in the commune of Benamargosa in the province of Malaga, where a street turned into a stream.

Delays at Malaga airport

The flooding of the tracks resulted in the suspension of train traffic in the province of Malaga, including long-distance trains.

Polish tourists could not fly from Malaga until the evening.

– The storm has stopped a long time ago, it is raining lightly. The planes are taking off. Other Ryanair planes are also flying, but we still have to wait. Our flight is marked as “delayed” on the departure board, one of the tourists waiting for departure from Spain told TVP.Info. Several flights were cancelled.

Due to the threat, the match between Polish tennis players and Spanish players in the final tournament of the Billie Jean King Cup was also canceled. The organizers postponed it to November 15.

Two weeks ago, Spain faced the deadliest flood in recent decades.
