Cylinder explosion at the campsite. Poles were wounded
The campsite quickly became a dangerous place. Not at all because of thieves or difficult weather conditions.
The tragic event took place in Croatia. Tourists who rested at one of the campsites used popular tourist equipment, i.e. gas cylinders and a portable burner. Traditional coffee brewing turned into a nightmare. At some point the cylinder exploded. The injured were a Polish woman and her child.
Explosion at a campsite in Croatia
The explosion occurred at a camping site near Funtana, a small tourist town on the west coast of the Istrian peninsula. According to the Istria Police Department, the services received a report of an accident on Monday, September 7 in the morning.
It was determined on site that a small gas cylinder exploded in the tent right after a 39-year-old Polish woman turned off the burner after heating water for coffee. The burns to the woman and child were so severe that the tourists were immediately taken to a hospital in Pula. The services in Croatia did not provide further information about the current health condition of the Poles.
Are tourist gas cylinders safe?
It might seem that popular tourist equipment is reliable and should not pose a threat, but this situation proves that you should be absolutely careful when using them. According to the Croatian police, the cause of the explosion could not be explained because the equipment was used as intended.
Safety rules that help minimize explosions and tragedies include: buying cylinders from reliable sources and storing them properly – always placing them vertically. It is also crucial to use them in well-ventilated places, preferably outdoors.
It is not worth using the cylinder if you notice any signs of rust, dents or other disturbing signals. After cooking, it is best to immediately turn off the main cylinder knob and then store the equipment away from the sun.
