Well-known companies such as New Balance and Ochnik fell victim to a cyber attack that resulted in the leakage of customer data. Attacked companies appeal for caution and implement preventive measures.

On September 18, there was a hacker attack, the effects of which were felt by brands such as New Balance, W.Kruk, Ochnik and StreetStyle24. All these companies informed their customers about a data leak that occurred as a result of a hack into the servers of a technology partner responsible for processing data on their behalf.

As reported by niebezpiecznik.pl, the incident was widely publicized on social media, drawing attention to the serious threat to customers’ privacy.

Sensitive data in the hands of hackers

The attacked companies took quick steps to inform their customers about the scale of the problem. Official announcements stated that as a result of the attack, personal data such as name, surname, address, e-mail address and telephone number may have been disclosed. Ochnik and New Balance sent almost identical messages, which suggests that they use the same IT system that was targeted by cybercriminals.

According to the information provided by niebezpiecznik.pl, unauthorized persons gained access to one of the technical accounts, which did not normally have broad permissions, but through a security hole they managed to gain access to sensitive files containing customer data.

In the face of this event, the attacked enterprises implemented immediate actions to secure their systems. New Balance assures that preventive measures were immediately introduced to block further violations and remove the source of the problem. Similarly, Ochnik reassures customers by informing that there has been no leakage of passwords or other access data, and the risk associated with the attack is assessed as low.

The companies emphasize that they are monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis to minimize potential threats that could result from this cyber attack.

Warning for customers and services

While businesses responded quickly to the incident, customers were asked to exercise extreme caution in the coming days. Ochnik and New Balance warn against the possible appearance of spam or fake messages, which may be an attempt to extort additional data. Customers are asked not to respond to suspicious messages or open links that may be part of a scam.

Both W.Kruk and StreetStyle24 informed the relevant services about the attack, including the Personal Data Protection Office, which may take further steps in this matter.
