Cruise ship hits iceberg, passengers express excitement

Passengers on the Carnival Spirit cruise ship will remember this trip for a long time. While sailing through Alaska, the ship hit a block of ice.

Although the tragic story of the Titanic won the hearts of viewers around the world thanks to the Oscar-winning film from 1997, no one would like to experience the events in the cinema firsthand. Passengers of the large cruise ship Carnival Spirit, which sailed off the coast of Alaska last week, were able to see what it was like to inevitably approach a protruding block of ice. Although the drifting piece of ice was not nearly as dangerous as the famous iceberg that sank the RMS Titanic in 1912, witnesses decided to share a recording of their adventure on the Internet.

A cruise ship encountered a piece of ice

A “stray piece of drift ice” caused quite a stir aboard the Carnival Spirit cruise ship on Thursday, September 5. The ship was on a week-long cruise through the Alaskan fjords when a block of ice suddenly appeared in front of the hull. Although the piece of ice was small, it could have caused damage to the ship. Tourists watching the incident were thrilled. “If we die, it was worth it. It’s a Titanic moment,” says Cassandra Goskie, one of the passengers, who posted a video of the incident on her TikTok profile a week later.

No one was hurt

No tourists were injured in the incident. “The collision did not cause any damage that would require emergency procedures. The crew did an amazing job keeping all passengers safe and informed,” a cruise participant reported. This was also confirmed by a Carnival Cruise Line spokesperson. “The assessment did not indicate any hull issues. We continued our voyage without disruption,” we read. The cruise ship has already returned to Seattle, Washington, where it began its voyage. The company has already sent another aircraft on the same route – this time for as long as 14 days.
